Change Your Look With Different Hair Color Styles

If you are interested in changing your appearance, hair color styles can be the best way to go about it. Whether you want to change your base color or look at adding accents, there are a whole range of options for you to choose from.

Before you dye your hair you should know how hair grows. Hair is made up of individual shafts of protein that are actually dead. There is an inner layer to the hair shaft as well as an outer covering. When the outside of the hair shaft lies flat it looks glossy and smooth since it reflects light. Hair grows out from the scalp. If hair has been dyed a different color, the natural color will show as it grows out from your head. This is referred to as having roots and is something that has plagued women who color their hair. Depending on how quickly your hair grows you can begin to see roots in as little as one to two weeks.

Changing your base color can be the simplest way to go about altering your hair color. This is because you change the entire hair is colored at the same time and will all grow out at the same time. There are four main natural colors you can choose from including blond, brown, red and black. There are different shades and tones in each of these basic colors and the shade you choose is up to you.

There are a range of different options if you are changing the overall color of your hair. You can opt for a temporary hair color, one that is semi-permanent or one that is completely permanent. The difference is in the amount of peroxide in the hair dye. Permanent hair dye uses peroxide or similar chemicals to open the hair shaft to allow the dye to penetrate the hair shaft. This results in color which will not wash out, but will give you roots as it grows.

You can also opt for a color which is not found in nature. Many people opt to make a strong statement with their hair and color it blue, red, green or purple. Keep in mind that if you want a subtle change these are not the colors for you, and they may require more care and upkeep than a more natural color. You are also more likely to develop very noticeable roots.

If you want to make a change but you do not want to change your base color, you can use highlights or low lights to accent your base color. Highlights are where sections of your hair are lightened using dye. They can be blond or a lighter version of your base color. This can be tricky to do on your own if you have no experience coloring your hair. Low lights are where sections of your hair are darkened to a deeper shade of your base color. Both of these are intended to mimic the natural shade range of hair that has been exposed to sun.

Hair color styles can be varied and really change your appearance. Learning how to do it properly and choosing the right shade for you can take time, trial and error.
