I have never gotten my hair colored or anything my whole life. I have dark brown hair that almost goes down to my waist and is cut in long layers. I have called multiple hair salons and the average price for getting my hair colored with some highlights will be $130 and up! Is that too much? I would reallllly appreciate the help because I don’t want to get ripped off.

Considering the length of your hair, no. You could always try a cosmetology school, the prices are very cheap because they are just learning. At my school, a full foil starts at $40, with $14 each extra application. You would probably need at least two more apps, considering your length, so I would guess about $68, an that’s dirt cheap school prices.
Where you are located, city or area will be a major factor. Due to the length of your hair, the color will be more time consuming and require more product for the stylist. If you want an all over color and highlights as well, that is generally considered two separate processes. I live in a small town, 3500 population, and it is less expensive to have my hair colored in the small town than it is to go into the city, however, the quality of the work is less than considerable. My hair is to the middle of my back, for an all over color and a highlight with a trim, I generally pay $80 in a respectable salon in the city. She charges $65 for color and highlights only. She is a seasoned stylist. $130 seems a bit steep but if you have evaluated the stylists’ work, it could be worth it. In your area, that may be the going rate, if you have checked other places and they are similar, most likely that is the case. Good luck, and keep in mind, if your hair is that long, it would be devastating to have it over-processed, it could result in you having to cut it to remove over-processed ends. Best of Luck
No, your hair is expected to give you that a bit big cost because it is too long and you’re asking for a hair color and a highlights on it. The price is just right for you. After all, it will be giving you a total make over that can boost your self esteem and confidence.
