Human hair wigs are really the way to go if you want a wig that actually looks good. Oh sure, the synthetic stuff looks alright as part of a costume or a goofy outfit, but as a way to actually sell it off as real hair? Forget it. When it comes to wigs, you really should accept no substitutes, as they say. If we take some time to actually compare real hair wigs to the various other imitators out there, here’s what we find.
Against Synthetic Wigs
Let’s be honest, no matter how far the technology comes, no matter how much they do to make synthetic wigs more and more like real human hair, at the end of the day, it still feels like wearing a Barbie dolls hair on your head. It doesn’t feel right, it just feels like plastic, like synthetic material, and it certainly doesn’t look right. It looks too plastic, too shiny and too artificial through and through.
Horse Hair Wigs
If you’re not going to wear real hair wigs, you may as well wear horse hair, at least, since it is natural, unlike synthetic hair wigs. It’s interesting to note that the idea of horse hair wigs started in the Victorian age when people wore wigs that would frequently flow down to the waist. These wigs were just incredibly expensive to produce with real human hair, so horse hair and goat hair were soon turned to as cheaper substitutes.
Against Machine Made Wigs
Machine made wigs does not mean machine made hair. Well, we should say that it doesn’t NECESSARILY mean machine made hair. Machine made wigs can be made of horse hair, synthetic hair or human hair. By being machine made, they’re more accurate in terms of fit and style and hair count and so on. But regardless, if you get machine made, make sure that it was machine made from HUMAN hair, because other hair just plain’ doesn’t look right.
Other types of wigs besides human hair are great for costumes, they’re great for goofy outfits, but when it comes to actually trying to carry it off as real hair, why use anything but real hair? Okay, horse hair is technically real hair, but it just doesn’t really look quite right. It does look like animal hair when all’s said and done, and synthetic hair just looks kind of silly. No matter how far the technology goes, synthetic won’t match up to human hair and neither will horse.
