I’ve heard that using “box color” is horrible, but what’s the real difference from salon color and what you can buy in the store?

Nothing, except the cost and the expertise of the person applying the product.

If you follow the directions explicitly, don’t color your hair too often, and apply the product evenly, you should expect similar results to what you could get in a salon.

The chemical make-up of the majority of hair color products is very similar.

It’s all the same , cosmetologists tell you that because most women do not do it properly and ruin their hair then they have to go to a salon to have it fixed. All coloring dries out the hair.

usually what we but in the store is only mainly for coloring our hair. wherelse the professionals in the salon can do our whole entire head ,back and front . they will do the necessary treatments after the color . the most important is that any mis-color . they repair immediately for free . usually cut is complmentary ! strongly recommended for long hair people .
